The territory is bordered to the north by the municipalities of Scarlino and Gavorrano, east and south-east by the town of Grosseto and in the west and south it is washed by the waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea.

For those approaching the sea, the impact is extraordinary: the long beach is clearly separated from the mouth of the Bruna River ending in the Bridge-Canal and the dock, in the west beach and east beach. The town center is characterized by the presence of the port channel that hosts a large number of pleasure craft and fishing boats. From this pier, in 1973 Ambrogio Fogar set off to circumnavigate the globe and returned in December of 1974. The castle and the walls dominate the town from above.
